Penns Valley school district officials are ready to show off the high school’s new addition.

An open house is set for Tuesday to give parents and other community members a glimpse of the new multipurpose facility at the Penns Valley Area High School.

The facility was constructed as an addition to the high school and resulted in a new multipurpose room, trainer’s room and sport officials’ room.

The addition was part of a larger project to renovate the school’s aging locker rooms, which officials said hadn’t been upgraded since the facility was built in the 1960s and were in need of repair.

The Penns Valley school board voted over the summer to move ahead with the locker room renovations and decided to include an addition for the multipurpose facility in the project.

The district spent about $2.8 million on the project, including a $1.7 million general construction contract with Haas Buildings Solutions in State College.

Officials have said, however, that the board didn’t have to raise taxes or borrow money for the project, instead dipping into reserve funds to complete the work.

The new space created by the addition is smaller than a full gymnasium, but it gives the district much needed room and flexibility for wrestling practice, indoor baseball drills and other activities, officials have said.

The district previously showed off the locker room renovations, the first phases of the project, at an open house in October.

Now officials are ready to display the multipurpose facility.

An open house is set for Tuesday at the high school.

Tours will form between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the gym lobby.
