Boys basketball: State College nearly pulls upset of Cumberland Valley

— State College could not quite pull off the upset Wednesday night, falling 56-54 to Cumberland Valley in Mid Penn Conference play.

Michael Beattie netted 11 of his team-high 20 points in the second quarter as the Little Lions (1-10) built a 31-27 halftime lead and still led by two points heading into the fourth quarter against the conference-leading Eagles (10-1). Alex McCann added 11 points.

John Peterson’s 21 points and Matt Tamanosky’s 10 paced Cumberland Valley.
