Penn State hockey: Colgate women drop Nittany Lions in OT

From CDT staff reportsJanuary 11, 2014

— The Penn State women’s ice hockey team finally found some offense, but it wasn’t enough in a 3-2 overtime loss to Colgate on Friday night at Pegula Ice Arena.

Taylor Volpe tied the game with 2:05 left in regulation, then scored the winner 1:05 into overtime for the Raiders (5-13). Melissa Kueber scored their first tally.

Jill Holdcroft netted her fourth goal of the season by converting a turnover in the second period for the Nittany Lions, while Taylor Gross got help from Shannon Yoxheimer on the other score.

Penn State (3-17-2) has lost five straight, with the previous four by shutout. Holdcroft’s goal was the team’s first since a 1-1 tie with Maine on Nov. 30.

Celine Whitlinger made 29 saves for the Lions, who tangle with the Raiders again at 2 p.m. Saturday.
