Penn State volleyball: Hawaii edges Nittany Lions

— After a strong start, the No. 11 Penn State men’s volleyball team could not hold off No. 14 Hawaii on Friday night in the Outrigger Invitational.

The Nittany Lions are off to an 0-2 start to the season after the 20-25, 25-22, 26-24, 25-21 loss at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Sinisa Zarkovic put down the last of his match-high 22 kills to close the match, while former Nittany Lion Jace Olsen added 15 kills. The Wahini hit .350 to Penn State’s .325 night, with a 7-5 advantage in blocks.

Nick Goodell’s 19 kills on .455 hitting, Aaron Russell’s 16 kills, eight digs and four aces and Peter Russell’s 10 kills paced Penn State. Taylor Hammond gave out 52 assists, Matt Callaway had eight kills and three blocks and Connor Curry had 11 digs.

The Nittany Lions wrap up their trip to Hawaii with a match against Ohio State on Saturday night.
