HONOLULU — Behind three players in double figures for kills, the Penn State men’s volleyball team earned its first win of the season late Saturday night, sweeping No. 12 Ohio State 28-26, 25-20, 25-19 on the final day of the Outrigger Invitational.
Nick Goodell put down 13 kills on .417 hitting to go with seven digs, Peter Russell had 12 kills on .412 hitting, Aaron Russell had 10 kills and Matt Seifert added eight kills on .417 hitting. Freshman Matt Callaway led with three blocks, and Taylor Hammond directed an offense that hit .312 with 44 assists.
For the third straight match No. 11 Penn State (1-2) was outblocked, this time 10-4.5
Shawn Herron’s eight kills led the Buckeyes (0-3), who hit .227.
The Nittany Lions will play their home opener Friday at Rec Hall, hosting IPFW.
