On Centre: Around Bellefonte | Art museum raises more than $50,000 in campaign, exceeds goal

The Bellefonte Art Museum for Centre County is in good shape for the future.

President and Executive Director Pat House set out in 2013 to raise $50,000 for a private donation matching grant to ensure the programs can continue and expand, and she was successful. House and her volunteers were able to raise $53,000 to give a total of $103,000 to the organization.

She said the majority of the donations came in from Bellefonte, State College and some surrounding municipalities.

“We did very well,” she wrote in an email. “We are elated and feel so proud to be a part of communities that support the arts.”

The Allegheny Street museum, which opened six years ago, has six galleries, runs an after-school program for children and holds summer camps.

House said that the money raised from the campaign will be put back into programs and help ensure the future of the museum.

The museum’s website was recently updated with some classes that will be offered in 2014.

Some include Computer Painting on Touch Screens; Exploration of Illustration; Printmaking: Etching, Relief, Monoprinting; Painting; The Wonderful World of Watercolor; Digital Photography; Bookbinding for Beginners; and Drawing from Nature.

Each of the classes includes a registration fee that ranges from $25 to $150.

More class information and registration forms can be found of the museum’s website (www.bellefontemuseum.org).

The site is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4:30 p.m.
