State College Borough Council OKs engineering work on traffic signal plans

State College Borough Council has approved $63,450 for engineering assistance on traffic signal design plans at several downtown intersections.

Council approved the contract with Stahl Sheaffer Engineering in State College during a brief regular meeting Monday evening.

Borough officials said that engineering assistance is needed for the traffic signal plans and handicap ramp designs at the intersections of East Beaver Avenue and South Pugh Street and East College Avenue and Pugh, and for handicap ramp designs at Beaver and Locust Lane.

The engineers also will be responsible for preparing and submitting plans to the state Department of Transportation for a highway occupancy permit for the construction.

The work is part of the Pugh Street streetscape project, officials said.
