Penn State fencing: Nittany Lion men, women go 5-1

— Penn State collected a pair of strong showings Sunday in the Penn State Invitational.

The Nittany Lion men beat Drew 27-0, North Carolina 21-6, Duke 18-9, Penn 23-4 and Haverford 25-2, and fell 15-12 to Columbia.

The Penn State women beat Temple 18-9, North Carolina 20-7, Columbia 17-10, Duke 17-10 and Haverford 18-9, losing to Penn 14-13.

Max Kleeman was 6-0 in men’s epee, Yasser Mahmoud was 9-1 and Oskar Tang was 9-2. David Willette, David Gomez-Tanamachi, Paul Valigorsky and Nicolas Graziano all had undefeated days in men’s foil. David Akrami, David Filteau and Sean Moran all posted undefeated records in men’s saber.

In women’s epee, freshman Jessie Radanovich posted a 15-0 day, while Clarisse Luminet was 8-2 and Desree Ortega-Ferguson was 5-2 in foil. Nicole Glon was 8-2, Heather Nelson was 9-1 and Teodara Kakhiani was 12-2 in women’s saber.

The Nittany Lions visit St. John’s on Jan. 26 along with Columbia, Harvard, Notre Dame and Ohio State.
