Campus corner: Former State College swimmer shines for James Madison

Former State College swimmer Susanne Gingher was the only double winner for James Madison University in a 202-90 women’s romp over Georgetown on Saturday.

Gingher won the 100 backstroke in a career-best 57.46 seconds and also took the 100 freestyle in 52.13 seconds for the Dukes of the Colonial Athletic Association.


Mitchell Port (Bellefonte, Edinboro) now owns a 16-0 record and the No. 1 ranking at 141 pounds.

Ty Millward (State College, West Virginia) is 1-2 as a walk-on at 149 pounds for the Mountaineers.

Leo Wortman (Bellefonte, Stevens Institute of Technology) returned from injuries and went 2-1 as Stevens finished second at the Virginia Duals. Wortman, who had a broken nose and an injured shoulder, is now 8-7 at 157 pounds.


Brian Scholly (State College, Juniata) is averaging 14.2 points per game, has 69 rebounds, four steals, 19 assists and four blocks. Juniata is 11-2.

Kate McDonald (State College, Juniata) averages 18.5 points, 11.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 3.8 steals. Juniata is 7-6.

Dennis Fisher (Bald Eagle Area, Juniata) has a 2.1 scoring average, five assists, 17 rebounds, two steals and four blocks.

Jena Matter (Bellefonte, Mansfield) leads the team in scoring with a 13.8 average. She has 103 rebounds, 27 assists and 25 steals. Mansfield is 0-15.

Brittany Butterworth (BEA, Pitt-Greensburg) has a 3.5 scoring average to go with 27 rebounds, 15 assists and nine steals. Pitt-Greensburg is 6-7.

Taylor Allison (State College, St. Francis) has a 0.4 scoring average, two rebounds, two assists and one steal. St. Francis is 4-10.

Jenna Altomare (State College, Kutztown) averages 6.2 points and 1.2 rebounds per game. She also has 11 assists and 10 steals. Kutztown is 6-8.

Kyle Kanaskie (State College, Truman State) averages 7.3 points and 3.2 rebounds per game to go along with 33 assists and 12 steals. Truman State is 10-3.

Kaitlyn Miller (BEA, PSU-Fayette) averages 13.6 points, 12.0 rebounds. 7 assists and 0.4 steals. Fayette is 7-4.

Maddie Basstress (Penns Valley, Washington & Jefferson) has seven rebounds, a steal and a 0.8 scoring average. W&J is 8-3.


Sam Eaton (State College, Dickinson) placed fourth in the 50 breaststroke at the Bob Mowerson Invitational in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

Alex Hillsley (State College, Delaware) won the 100 freestyle in :47.05 and the 200 IM in 1:55.58 and also swam on the second-place 400 freestyle team that posted a time of 3:08.94 against Drexel.
