Letter to the editor | Due process, diligence

January 15, 2014

The article “Penn State officials, Franklin forced to address Vanderbilt rape case” (Sunday) indicated that James Franklin was hired as the new coach of the Penn State football team, and we all wish him nothing but the best. We also welcome his enthusiasm and the announcement that he is here to stay.

However, in this article Dave Joyner said that people had said to him that they hoped that he had used due diligence in the hiring process, and that he responded by saying that he did.

The thing that boggles the mind here is that “due diligence” was used in the hiring of coach Franklin, which rightfully should have been, but when coach Joe Paterno was fired, “due process” was ignored.
