Helping Hands: Free tax help available to Centre County residents

January 15, 2014

Free tax preparation help will be available to Centre County residents starting Feb 1 through the sponsorship of the County Commissioners of Centre County, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, and Penn State Cooperative Extension.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, an IRS program, offers free tax help to individuals and families with a household income of $52,000 and below and who are U.S. citizen. The IRS-certified volunteer preparers have completed many hours of training and have passed the IRS-certification exam. Additionally, the Penn State site offers educational resources and information on managing money.
