High school girls’ basketball: State College falls to CD East

— State College suffered its fourth conseuctive loss as the Lady Little Lions fell 71-56 to Central Dauphin East on Tuesday.

The Lady Little Lions (7-5) overcame a slow start and were within a basket (33-31) at the half. The Lady Panthers pulled away over the final two quarters, outscoring State College 25-16.

“We came out so flat defensively,” said State College coach Bethany Irwin, whose team gave up 19 points in the period. It wasn’t anything like practice. We gave up to many easy baskets. We got it back close and we came out flat again in the second half. ... We just have to keep fighting.”

Kyla Irwin led the Lady Little Lions with 18 points. Jaylin Shelton-Burleigh added 11.

Michaela Gelbaugh had 22 points and Brittany Robinson added 15 for the Lady Panthers (6-6).
