Girls basketball: Philipsburg-Osceola knocks off Clearfield

From CDT staff reportsJanuary 16, 2014

— Haylee Hayward scored eight points in a big first quarter and Abby Showers made all 12 of her free throws as the Philipsburg-Osceola girls’ basketball team knocked off Clearfield 60-57 on Wednesday.

Hayward’s immediate offense helped the Lady Mounties (3-11) grab a 21-14 lead after the first period. Clearfield would never get closer than three points from there. Showers helped keep the Bison from getting closer with her perfect night at the line.

Showers finished with 21 points, while Hayward added 18. Katie Meersand contributed nine points off the bench. Showers also grabbed eight rebounds, while Cheyenne Bone had four assists and played excellent defense.

“I thought it was a complete team win,” P-O coach Doug Myers said. “Everybody played well.”

Briana Spencer had 14, Emily Ryan netted 13 and Emily Aveni added 12 for Clearfield.
