Girls basketball: Altoona rallies past State College

— Altoona hit 12 of 16 shots from the foul line and eight buckets from beyond the arc on Thursday night to take down State College 62-56 in a back-and-forth game.

Kyla Irwin led the Lady Little Lions with 19 points, while Jalyn Shelton-Burleigh added 14 as State College led 32-30 at the break. Altoona (5-5) kept pace with six of its eight 3-pointers in the first half, while the Lady Mountain Lions topped of their effort from the line for the win. State College (7-6) finished the game 2 of 6 from the line.

“I think this game was a turning point for our girls,” State College coach Bethany Irwin said. “It was a really good game, there were six or seven lead changes, and Altoona shot well from the 3-point line. The difference was at the foul line. It was a pretty physical game.”

Altoona’s Darby Lee led all scorers with 22 points, while Lauren Donley added 12.

State College hosts Carlisle for Senior Night on Friday.
