Philipsburg man charged after leading police on chase

A Philipsburg man is facing fleeing and eluding charges after he reportedly fled from police Friday morning during a traffic stop.

State police at Philipsburg said while attempting to pull over Joseph W. Oswalt, 21, for several traffic violations, Oswalt reportedly failed to stop.

Police said Oswalt proceeded through a red light and drove erratically south on South Front Street in Philipsburg. While at the intersection of East Maple Street, Oswalt reportedly failed to negotiate a left turn and drove off the road striking a traffic sign.

Oswalt and two juvenile passengers reportedly then exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.

Police took the three into custody.

Upon further investigation, police found Oswalt had an outstanding arrest warrant was was placed in the Centre County Correctional Facility.
