Penn State women’s tennis: Nittany Lions beat Bucknell

— The Penn State women’s tennis team opened its season with a pair of victories Saturday, defeating Bucknell 6-1 and Cleveland State 5-2.

Against Bucknell, the Nittany Lions swept the top final singles matches. No. 1 Carmen Sandor, No. 2 Dasha Sapogova, No. 3 Marie Bedard, No. 4 Katherine Whiteaway and No. 5 Taylor Shukow each won in straight sets.

Penn State also earned the doubles point as No. 2 Bedard and Sapogova and No. 3 Whiteaway and Shukow earned victories.

The Nittany Lions won four singles matches against Cleveland State. No. 1 Katia Blik, No. 2 Sandor, No. 3 Sapogova and No. 5 Bedard won in straight sets. Penn State earned the doubles point as No. 1 Utting and Sandor and No. 2 Bedard and Blik triumphed.
