Our View | Thumbs up for Saturday

January 25, 2014

Thumbs up: to Gareth Prebble who, in writing about inspirational leaders for a Martin Luther King Jr. Day essay contest, proved himself to be an inspiration. The Mount Nittany Middle sixth-grader has cerebral palsy and wrote eloquently about the need to accept and respect those with disabilities.

Thumbs up: To the Penn State men’s basketball team, which won its first Big Ten game of the season Thursday, holding off Nebraska 58-54 at the Bryce Jordan Center. The Nittany Lions had been oh-so-close several times. We were glad to see them break through with that victory.

Thumbs up: To Mike Munchak, the former Penn State standout who was ousted as head coach of the NFL’s Tennessee Titans after the past season, but who signed on this week to coach the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offensive line. Munchak’s name also surfaced when Penn State was coach-shopping.
