Letter to the Editor | Implication incorrect

January 25, 2014

Thursday’s editorial, “Timing of Paterno, Pattee statue proposal is suspect,” is clearly based on the opinion that coach Joe Paterno’s response to Jerry Sandusky’s abuse of children was the same as those charged with failing to follow the law in this case.

According to the CDT, “Any tributes to the former coach should wait until all legal battles have played out. The proceedings involving former officials Graham Spanier, Tim Curley and Gary Schultz are still active in the courts. Those three were implicated with Paterno in the Freeh findings.”

That’s wrong. Paterno followed the law and reported Sandusky’s actions to the proper authorities. Paterno is not implicated along with Curley, Schultz and Spanier in illegal actions.

The editorial only perpetuates the slander of an honorable man.
