Penn State women’s hockey: Orange squeeze past Nittany Lions in OT

— The Penn State women’s hockey team went to overtime for the third straight game, but came out on the short end in a 3-2 loss to Syracuse on Friday night.

Hannah Hoenshell and Laura Browman scored the Nittany Lion goals while Celine Whitlinger had a busy night in the Penn State net, turning aside 44 shots as the Lions were outshot 47-24 by the Orange. Shannon Yoxheimer, Laura Bowman and Amy Petersen each had an assist.

Melissa Piacentini and Nicole Renault scored goals for Syracuse as every goal in regulation was netted in the second period. Piacentini then hit the net 2:44 into overtime to end the contest.

The teams meet again at 2 p.m. Saturday.
