Wrestling: Penns Valley in sixth place after Day 1 at Grove City Invitational

— After the first day of the Grove City Invitational on Friday, Penns Valley is in sixth place of the 30-team tournament.

The Rams have 53 team points and trail leader Redbank by 19 points. Stroudsburg (66.5), General McLane (61), St. Mary’s (57) and Jamestown (53.5) round out the top five.

“We started off with a strong performance and we look to build on that,” Rams coach Joel Brinker said. “We were very pleased with today’s performance.”

Penns Valley has seven wrestlers still alive in the championship bracket with Curtis Decker (120), Jared Hurd (126), Jacob Confer (132), Seth Decker (152), Andrew Hurd (160), Cory Hazel (170) and Jason Thoms (182).

Curtis Decker, Confer and Seth Decker all recorded falls in their two wins on the day. Three Ram wrestlers are alive in the consolation brackets in Colton Confer (113), Logan Johnson (195) and Tyler Bertin (220).
