UNIVERSITY PARK — The Penn State womens volleyball team has lost another assistant coach.
Steve Aird was named head coach at Maryland on Wednesday, leaving the Nittany Lions after two seasons as an assistant coach and previous work as the director of operations in 2007.
The programs other assistant coach, Kaleena Davidson, decided earlier this month to leave the program and coaching, although she plans to stay in town. It leaves the Nittany Lions and head coach Russ Rose without a full-time assistant coach just over a month after the program captured its sixth NCAA title and fifth crown in the last seven seasons.
I am forever grateful for the opportunity I had at Penn State both as a player and a member of the staff, Aird said. Coach Rose has been a mentor to me and he knows how much I respect him and the program. I truly appreciate the student-athletes, fans and boosters that Ive been fortunate to know during my time at Penn State, and I am incredibly excited to get going in College Park.
The Terrapins will join the Big Ten this fall.
