High school wrestling: Penns Valley falls in District 6 duals quarterfinals

— Third-seeded Mount Union ended Penns Valley’s hopes of advancing to the District 6 Class AA duals semifinals on Thursday, using six falls to eliminate the 11th-seeded Rams 54-19 in the quarterfinal round.

The Rams (11-9) opened Thursday night’s first round with a 44-31 victory over sixth-seeded Blairsville, as Curtis Decker (120 pounds), Jared Hurd (126), Jacob Confer (132), Jason Thoms (182) and Logan Johnson (220) picked up pins for Penns Valley. Isaac Bierly (145) and Seth Decker (160) also won by major decision against the Bobcats.

Against the Trojans, the Rams cut their deficit to 24-19 behind a major decision from Seth Decker and a pin from Corey Hazel at 152 and 170, respectively, before Mount Union closed out the meet with three straight falls and a pair of forfeits.

Mount Union will wrestle in the semifinals at Tyrone on Saturday night.

Penns Valley returns to the mat on Monday against Bald Eagle Area.
