Girls basketball: State College sunk by Cumberland Valley

— State College jumped out to an eight-point lead after the first quarter against first-place Cumberland Valley, but the Lady Little Lions couldn’t hold on in a 42-35 loss in a Mid Penn Conference Commonwealth division girls’ basketball game on Friday night.

Kyla Irwin scored 22 points to lead State College (11-7, 8-5). Taylor Sneidman led a balanced scoring effort for the Eagles (17-2, 13-1) with 11 points. Kelly Jekot added nine, and Meghan Rhoades and Jennifer Falconer each finished with six for Cumberland Valley.

The Eagles held State College to one point in the second quarter to take a 14-12 halftime lead. Cumberland Valley then outscored the Lady Little Lions 15-11 in the third quarter to start to pull away.
