Letter to the editor | Caution needed

February 1, 2014

I’d like to make a general apology to all those who have been inconvenienced by my cautious driving at the intersection of Blue Course Drive and West College Avenue.

But here's the thing: That is a very tricky intersection.

Making a left turn is a long path across two oncoming lanes that are emerging from behind a hill. And when someone is opposite, waiting to make a turn, it's impossible to know what's going on behind that dip.

So, yes, when I can't see oncoming traffic, I yield on a left turn until I see the explicit left turn arrow. I'm unwilling to play Russian roulette, especially when I'm with my child in the car.

We all have places to go and too little time, but can't we all just get along and maybe calm down and exercise defensive driving at this intersection.
