High School boys’ basketball: Jones’ big night leads Bald Eagle Area over Punxsutawney

From CDT staff reportsFebruary 1, 2014

— Jason Jones netted a career-high 27 points to lead Bald Eagle Area to a 78-69 victory over Puxsutawney on Saturday.

The two teams combined for 17 3-pointers, but Jones’ inside play made the difference for the Eagles (14-4).

Ryan Dyke made two of BEA’s four 3-pointers in the first quarter and Jones took advantage as the Chucks (9-8) tightened up on the perimeter.

“On the post, he was just rebounding putting them back in,” BEA coach Bill Butterworth said of Jones. “He had an all-around good post game tonight. We kept feeding him and he used his speed inside.”

Bryan Greene and Brandon Gettig added 14 and 13, respectively for BEA. Punxsutawney‘s Brandon Mancuso nailed five 3-pointers and had a game-high 28 points.

The Eagles return to action Tuesday at Penns Valley.
