Each Monday, the Centre Daily Times will publish an installment in our “Share our Heritage” series, featuring photos from Centre County’s past. Today’s photo is from Ed Besecker, of Millheim.

He wrote: “This is a picture of the first Little League baseball team from Pleasant Gap. They were a member of the Clinton County league. They played their games in Centre Hall on the Little League field where Snappy’s gas station is now.

“They were managed by Bucky Garis and Vince Bauer. They were also assisted at many practices by Ralph Martz Sr. They were sponsored by the Bellefonte VFW Post 1600. The year was 1949.”

Pictured in front row, from left: Jim Martz, Bill Markle, Ron Tressler, Fred Markle, Ed Besecker, Emory White, John Garis and Bill Whitehill.

Second row, from left: Bucky Garis, Wayne Deibler, Marvin Breon, Bill Corrigan, Fred Williams, Bob Witherite, Charlie Gates, Bill Rote and Vince Bauer.
