UNIVERSITY PARK — The No. 12 Penn State men’s volleyball team defeated Saint Francis 25-21, 25-21, 23-25, 25-18 in its EIVA conference opener Saturday night in Rec Hall, extending the Nittany Lions 33-match winning streak against the Red Flash.
Aaron Russell led Penn State (5-2) with 15 kills on 28 swings. Russell also contributed four aces, eight digs and two blocks. Peter Russell added 13 kills, while Nick Goodell tallied 11 kills. Goodell also had eight digs and a block to earn Mike Anderson Penn State Player of the Match.
Matt Callaway and Taylor Hammond led the defense with four blocks apiece. Peter Russell and Matt Seifert each contributed three blocks. Hammond also dished out 30 assists.
Logan Anderson had 20 kills to pace the Red Flash (2-3).
On Friday, Penn State beat Mount Olive 25-14, 25-13, 25-19.
Spencer Sauter led the squad with a career-best performance, posting a team-high seven kills on eight errorless swings. Sauter also added three blocks, on the way to earning his first Mike Anderson Penn State Player of the Match honor. Joey Farrell also registered a career-high performance in his collegiate debut with six kills on .444 hitting, adding two digs and two blocks.
Matt Callaway had six blocks and Matt Seifert tallied five. Hammond had 26 assists.
