State College police: Man suffered face, head injuries in assault

State College police are investigating an assault early Sunday morning in which a man suffered head and face injuries and had to be taken to Geisinger Medical Center.

Police said the victim was attacked by another man at about 1 a.m. on the 200 block of South Pugh Street. Police said the attacker had been walking in a group, crossed the street and started the attack.

No further information was available from police.

The assault victim was first taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center, and then had to be transferred to Geisinger in Danville.

The attacker is described as a black man, about 6 feet tall, who was wearing a tan jacket.
