Our View | Thumbs for Feb. 4

February 4, 2014

Thumbs up: Organizers, volunteers and shoppers who participated in Saturday’s Trash to Treasure sale at Penn State. The semi-annual event raises money for United Way charities and keeps students’ discarded items out of land fills. Definitely a win-win.

Thumbs down: To the loss of a local business leader. Henry Haranin, owner of the Haranin Group, died in a car accident Saturday. In offering condolences to the family, Bellefonte Borough Manager Ralph Stewart said Haranin’s death would be felt by the whole community.

Thumbs up: To Boy Scout Troop 31, which celebrated its 100th anniversary Sunday in a ceremony at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. The State College troop is among an elite group. Only 66 troops in the country have celebrated centennials.
