Charges pending after argument over World Cup soccer turns physical

From CDT staff reportsFebruary 8, 2014

State College police said they plan to file charges against a 21-year-old Penn State student who allegedly assaulted a 19-year-old victim during an argument over soccer.

Lt. Mark Argiro said police received a call from Mount Nittany Medical Center at 4:21 a.m. Saturday after the victim entered the hospital with a fat lip, chipped tooth and bruised cheek.

The victim, also a Penn State student, told police that the suspect began to assault him at 321 Fraternity Row, after a heated discussion about World Cup soccer.

The suspect told police the victim insulted his favorite team, Brazil, Argiro said.

Argiro said police would file assault and harassment charges against the suspect.
