Penn State softball: Nittany Lions get first win under new coach Lehotek

— Amanda Lehotek earned her first victory as Penn State head coach as the Nittany Lions split two games to open the season at the Kajikawa Classic at Arizona State on Friday night.

Penn State dropped its opener 12-10 to Oregon State despite shooting off to an early 6-2 lead on the strength of a Karlie Habitz grand slam. Habitz finished with six RBIs while Alyssa Sovereign was 4 for 5, scoring two runs and knocking in another.

The Nittany Lions then earned their first win 10-4 over Appalachian State, getting started with a five-run first inning. Reina Furuya and Lexi Knief each had a pair of hits for Penn State.
