High school boys’ basketball: Bald Eagle Area tops Bellefonte

From CDT staff reportsFebruary 13, 2014

— A three-game losing stretch in late January was the low point of the season for the Bald Eagle Area boys’ basketball team.

BEA wasn’t down for long and hasn’t looked back since.

The Bald Eagles (17-4) won their sixth straight game on Wednesday and clinched a share of the Mountain League title in the process with a 79-57 victory over Bellefonte (2-17).

“I think right now we seem to be peaking,” BEA coach Bill Butterworth said. “We went through that little streak where we were 0-3 and lost three in one week. But we broke out of that with a couple of nice wins. Our offense is clicking and our defense is coming around.”

Three BEA players finished in double figures against the Red Raiders. Brandon Gettig led all scorers with 21 points while Bryce Greene added 16. Ryan Dyke chipped in 15 points.

Bellefonte also had three players finish with double-digit point totals. Evan Wian led the Red Raiders with 16 points, while Nick Leiter scored 11 and Andrew Stover added 10.
