BRADENTON, Fla. — Penn State dropped two matches on the opening day of the Big Ten Match play falling to Minnesota and Michigan State by identical 4-1 scores at the Concessions Golf Club.
Xander McDonald-Smith was the bright spot for Penn State, the tournament’s No. 10 seed. McDonald-Smith won 1-up over both Minnesota’s Tyler Lowestein and Michigan State’s Carson Castellani.
The Nittany Lions face No. 12 Nebraska in Saturday’s consolation bracket. In the championship bracket, Michigan faces Iowa and Purdue meets Northwestern.
