UNIVERSITY PARK — The Penn State men’s lacrosse team rallied from a four-goal, fourth-quarter deficit, but could not complete the comeback with a 12-11 overtime loss to No. 12 Loyola on Saturday afternoon at Holuba Hall.
Shane Sturgis’ three goals and two assists paced the No. 9 Nittany Lions (1-1), Kyle Van Thof had two goals and two assists, and Erik Myers and TJ Sanders each netted a pair of goals. Gavin Ahern and Kyle Baier rounded out the scoring, with Steven Bogert picking up an assist.
Nikko Pontrello, Tyler Albrecht and Jeff Chase each had three goals for the Greyhounds, with one score each for Brian Schultz, Kevin Ryan and Brian Sherlock.
Down 11-7 early in the fourth, Sanders, Myers and Sturgis all scored before Myers tied it with 1:03 left. Pontrello then won it in the extra frame.
Austin Kaut made six saves in the loss, while Jack Runkel made 12 saves for Loyola.
Penn State visits No. 5 Notre Dame on Saturday.
