Penn State softball: Nittany Lions romp George Washington, but fall to Northwestern in Tiger Invitational

— Penn State split a doubleheader in the Tiger Invitational, thumping George Washington 9-1 in five innings and falling 11-1 against Northwestern in five.

Penn State (4-3) notched six runs in its first two at-bats against the Colonials. Kasie Hatfield smacked a two-run double in the first inning and Macy Jones’ two-run single highlighted a four-run second.

Jones had three hits and Hatfield had two hits and three RBIs. Freshman Marlaina Laubach improved to 3-0 on the season, allowing four hits.

In the nightcap, Northwestern pounded Nittany Lion starter Maria Dreisher, who got just one out and gave up six runs in the first inning.

Karlie Habitz’s RBI single in the first provided Penn State’s lone run. Julia Kuhn belted a two-run homer and drove in four runs for the Wildcats.

Penn State faces host LSU in a doubleheader on Monday, starting at 5 p.m.
