Penn State women’s hockey: Mercyhurst finishes off series sweep of Nittany Lions

— No. 8 Mercyhurst scored three third-period goals to net a 4-1 victory over Penn State on Sunday.

The Nittany Lions (4-25-3) led early in the second period as Hannah Hoenshall scored off an assist from Paige Jahnke.

Mercyhurst (21-7-3), who won Saturday night’s contest 4-0 to sweep the series, tied it in the second on a goal by Paige Horton. In the third period, the Lakers’ Molly Byrne and Jenna Dingeldein netted goals and Chrsitine Bestland added an empty-netter with a mnute left.

Penn State goalie Nicole Paniccia turned back 48 shots. Amanda Makela had 18 saves for Mercyhurst.
