Children’s Advocacy Center opens Friday

From CDT staff reportsFebruary 21, 2014

Mount Nittany Health’s Children’s Advocacy Center opened its doors Friday, less than two weeks after officials from 17 different organizations signed an interagency agreement to launch the Bellefonte facility that serves children who have been victims of abuse or neglect.

The Children’s Advocacy Center’s focus is a child’s well-being, making him or her feel safe so that the child can share information and begin the process of healing, according to the nonprofit’s news release Friday.

The center conducts forensic interviews and medical exams at the Mount Nittany Health building at 129 Medical Park Lane, next to Mount Nittany Physician Group Pediatrics.

Executive Director Kristina Taylor-Porter said at the Feb. 10 event that the new facility will make the experience as easy as possible for young victims.

“Child abuse does occur, and every child needs an advocate,” Taylor-Porter said.
