Port Matilda man charged in Patton Township armed robbery

A Port Matilda man was jailed Friday after being charged in an armed robbery in Patton Township.

Police responded to a call at 501 Vairo Blvd. at 10:38 a.m. and were told the robber had left with a firearm and property from an apartment.

The vehicle was stopped near Vairo and North Atherton Street, and after additional investigation, Penn Porterfield, 20, was arrested.

Porterfield was charged with robbery, burglary, criminal trespass and receiving stolen property. He was taken to Centre County Prison in lieu of $500,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Ferguson Township police assisted.
