WINGATE — Michael Beattie scored 14 of his 18 points in the first quarter as State College took a commanding lead and cruised to a 46-33 victory over Hollidaysburg in a District 6 Class AAAA boys’ play-in game on Saturday at Bald Eagle Area High School.
The Little Lions (3-20) will face top-seeded Mifflin County (12-12) on Monday at Bald Eagle Area. The Little Lions lost 45-43 and 65-64 to the Huskies during the regular season.
The first quarter was the difference on Saturday between the fifth-seeded Little Lions and No. 4 Hollidaysburg (6-15). Behind Beattie’s outburst, which featured three 3-pointers, State College raced to a 24-9 lead.
The Little Lions were able to make that lead stand despite scoring just 22 points over the final three quarters and going 6 for 18 from the foul line. State College led 32-15 at the half.
Bryce Williams added 11 points for the Little Lions, including a pair of dunks. Tyler Hall notched nine points.
Brian Adams led the cold-shooting Tigers with 12 points. Hollidaysburg had defeated State College 56-53 in the Little Lions’ regular-season finale on Feb. 8.
The State College-Mifflin County winner will face the winner between No. 2 Altoona and No. 3 Central Mountain at 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the title game at Saint Francis University. State College is the three-time defending district champion.
