Penn State softball: Nittany Lions drop two

— A former District 6 standout struck a blow against Penn State as the Nittany Lions dropped a doubleheader at James Madison University on Saturday.

Maddy Grimm, an All-State player at Ligonier Valley, belted a solo home run and added a two-run single in a six-run fifth inning as Kent State dropped the Nittany Lions 9-1 in the opener. The game was halted after five innings.

Kasie Hatfield drove in Lexi Knief with Penn State’s lone run. Marlaina Laucbach (4-4) allowed four hits and three runs to take the loss.

In the nightcap, Dartmouth got its first win in six decisions with a 6-3 win over the Nittany Lions. Karen Chaw homered and drove in three runs for Dartmouth.

Karlie Habitz went 3-for-3, homered and drove in all three runs for the Nittany Lions (5-11). Christy Von Pusch (0-1) allowed nine hits and five earned runs in the loss.
