— A Maryland man who visited State College for State Patty’s Day faces a host of charges after borough police said he entered a 21-year-old Penn State student’s apartment early Sunday, climbed into bed with her and sexually assaulted her.

Police said Justin L. Blake, 20, of Newburg, Md., entered the woman’s apartment through an unlocked patio door in the 700 block of University Drive while she and her roommates were sleeping at 1:31 a.m. The woman, who said she did not know Blake, said he got into bed with her and began kissing and touching her sexually, according to police.

According to the criminal complaint, the woman initially thought Blake was her boyfriend, as the room was dark. She said that once she heard the man’s voice, she knew it wasn’t her boyfriend’s, according to the complaint. She told police she used her cellphone to light up Blake’s face, the complaint states.

The woman told police that at first, the intruder wouldn’t leave and asked her to have sex with him. The victim was able to get out of her room and wake her roommates, who forced Blake to leave, police said.

A roommate said in the complaint that the man said his name was Justin, that he was from Maryland and that he was going to a friend’s apartment. Blake told the roommate that he didn’t want to upset anyone, but that “he killed people when he was upset,” the complaint stated.

The women called 911 and provided a description of the man.

State College police said they found a man matching the description across the street from the victim’s apartment.

Police asked what the man’s name was and where he was from, and he answered that his name was Justin and he was from Maryland. His driver’s license identified him as Justin L. Blake.

Blake was identified also by the roommate as the man who was in the apartment.

Blake was arrested and charged with burglary, criminal trespass, aggravated indecent assault and indecent assault. Blake was taken to the Centre County Correctional Facility and arraigned by District Judge Steve Lachman, police said.

Blake’s bail was set at $30,000, and a preliminary hearing was set for March 12.

State Patty’s Day is a student-created drinking holiday. Efforts to squelch the weekend celebration included university payouts to taverns and alcohol retailers to not serve alcohol or to close altogether Saturday, as well as town-gown events to combat excessive drinking and offer alternative activities.
