Lock Haven man faces trial for assault

From CDT staff reportsMarch 6, 2014

Richard Young, 43, of Lock Haven, was bound over for trial for assault after emotional testimony from his girlfriend at his preliminary hearing.

The woman said that she “just thought he would be a good guy.” She shielded her face with her hand to block her view of Young while she was on the stand Wednesday.

She testified that he grabbed her arms, leaving bruises, and punched her in the head until she was bloody on Feb. 18 at his sister’s home in Boggs Township. She said Young was very possessive and controlling, often calling her names.

The woman became confused under cross examination from public defender Deb Lux, sometimes wavering on the dates that various assaults occurred. But she also detailed repeated times that Young threatened her life, including the Feb. 18 assault.

“He said he was going to kill me. I said ‘Is that a threat?’ ” she said. “He said, ‘It’s a promise.’ ”
