Penn State’s Julian property to be sold

Penn State will sell property near Julian because officials say the university’s use for it has decreased.

The property, called Lauren Haven in Huston Township, will be sold for $350,000 to Kevin and Margaret Brandt, said Ford Stryker, the university’s vice president for the physical plant, on Friday at the meeting in Hershey.

The property had been used by the College of Agricultural Sciences and the agricultural extension programs as the site of internship programs.

But there has been less and less use of the property because of its distance from campus, Stryker said. The university’s decision to sell was also based on increasing budget restrictions, costs and limited revenue potential.

The money from the sale will go toward an endowment that supports the College of Agricultural Sciences department of ecosystem science and management.
