Only 700 of 180,000 alumni return postcard mailer for Penn State trustee election

Out of 180,610 alumni who were mailed a postcard asking for their email addresses, only 700 have responded so far.

Trustee Keith Eckel said the emails were being collected with the hope of increasing voter turnout in the upcoming alumni trustee election. Eckel called the rate of return “somewhat disappointing.”

The postcards were sent to alumni who do not have an email address on file. The postcards asked the alumni to supply an email address so they can be sent an electronic ballot for the trustee election on April 10.

Previously, ballots were sent automatically only to alumni active over the past two years.

Eckel said the mailing cost $82,000.
