A Penn State professor was named art educator of the year by the National Art Education Association, the university has announced.

Mary Ann Stankiewicz was recognized for her accomplishments and service and selected for the away through a review of peer nominations.

Association President Dennis Inhulsen said Stankiewicz “exemplifies the highly qualified art educators active in education today: leaders, teachers, students, scholars and advocates who give their best to their students and the profession.”

Stankiewicz will receive the award at the association convention in San Diego later this month.

Stankiewicz’s research interests are art education history and policy.
