Dog shooter gets more time

From CDT staff reportsMarch 14, 2014

Barry Grove, 57, of Karthaus, was sentenced to an additional nine months to two years in state prison for cruelty to animals in the shooting death of his dog in April 2013. He pleaded guilty to the charges Wednesday. He was slated to stand trial this week.

The sentence will be consecutive to the five- to 10-year sentence Grove received earlier for related firearms charges. He also was fined $1,000 and is not permitted to own or possess animals for 12 years.

Centre County District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller said she was pleased with the verdict, calling the crime “truly senseless and cowardly.”
