Penn State softball: One-hitter helps Nittany Lions end 10-game skid

From CDT staff reportsMarch 16, 2014

— Christy Von Pusch tossed a one-hitter, while Macy Jones and Karlie Habitz belted home runs and drove in two runs as the Penn State softball team beat Yale 5-0 in the second game of a doubleheader to snap a 10-game losing streak on Saturday.

Earlier the Nittany Lions (6-14), fell 4-2 against Wagner.

Von Pusch (1-1) took a no-hitter into the seventh inning. A walk and a double play brought her within an out of the no-hitter, but Yale’s Camille Weisenbach singled to break it up. Von Pusch, backed by errorless fielding, walked four and struck out one.

Penn State got all the runs it would need in the first when Habitz singles and Jones followed with a blast to right-center. Habitz smacked a solo homer in the two-run fourth and Jones tripled and scored in the sixth.

Jones drove both Penn State runs against Wagner. She smacked an RBI single in the first and cracked a solo homer to right-center field in the fourth.

With the score tied 2-2 after six, Wagner’s Abigail Beasley belted a two-run homer off reliever Marlaina Laubach (4-6) in the top of the seventh to win the game. Beasley had thre RBIs in the contest.

Jones and Shelby Miller had two hits for Penn State.
