Penn State softball: Purdue spoils Nittany Lions’ home debut

— Purdue used a pair of four-run innings to spoil the Penn State softball team’s home opener Friday afternoon at Nittany Lion Softball Park, with the Boilermakers posting a 10-3 win.

Tori Chiodo had a big day at the plate for Purdue (14-16-1), going 2 for 2 with three walks and six RBIs. She cracked a three-run home run in the fourth inning and belted a three-run double in the seventh. Andie Varsho cracked a two-run homer in the second and added an RBI single in the fourth before Chiodo’s homer.

A Danielle Fletcher RBI double completed Purdue’s four-run seventh.

Karlie Habitz was 2 for 4 and stroked an RBI double in the first, Kasie Hatfield also was 2 for 4, Kristina Brackpool plated a run with a fourth-inning sacrifice fly and a Macy Jones RBI bunt single in the seventh closed the scoring.’
