— A three-car accident on Benner Pike at the entrance to the Wal-Mart Plaza sent four people to the hospital with minor injuries at about 6 p.m. Monday.

Alpha Fire Chief Jeff Martin said three cars crashed, two were seriously damaged and five people were involved in the accident; one did not seek medical treatment, he said.

“As to what happened, it’s hard to tell. There were no life-threatening injuries,” Martin said.

The four passengers were transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center.

Two of the cars’ front ends were smashed; one, a Mercury Cougar, was almost unrecognizable.

The other disabled auto was a late model Ford Focus. A third car, a Chevrolet Camaro, was able to be driven from the scene.

State College police directed traffic, which was being detoured through Nittany Mall and the Wal-Mart Plaza.

The accident was cleared by 6:35 p.m.
