Campus Corner: Burge settles in quickly as pitcher for Penn State-Altoona

For Kate Burge, the transition from high school to college pitching has been a smooth one.

Burge, a freshman at Penn State Altoona, has been named the ECAC Division III South Region Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 16. During that week she threw a perfect game and went 2-0 with an 0.63 ERA. In 16 innings she allowed five hits, a run, no walks and struck out 23. She was also named the AMCC Pitcher of the Week for the same time period. Penn State Altoona is 9-2.

For the year the freshman righthander from Philipsburg-Osceola has a 1.35 ERA with a 2-3 record and one save. In 36 1/3 innings she has allowed 26 hits and 10 runs, seven earned, walked seven and struck out 37.

Baseball

Seth Tressler (Bellefonte, Mansfield) was named the ECAC Player of the Week for the week ending March 16. In that span he want 12 for 19 (.632) with seven runs scored, three doubles, a homer and 11 RBIs. Overall he is hitting .387 with 16 runs scored, 24 hits, four doubles, a homer and 15 RBIs. Mansfield is 10-5.

Justin Taylor (Bald Eagle Area, California, Pa.) is hitting .278 with a run scored, five hits, a double and four RBIs. On the mound he’s 3-2 with a 3.77 ERA. In 31 innings he has allowed 31 hits and 15 runs, 13 earned, while walking eight and striking out 20. California is 11-7.

Brandon Myers (P-O, Slippery Rock) has a .263 batting average with five hits, a double and five RBIs. Slippery Rock is 12-8.

Luke Curtis (P-O, Pitt) is 0-0 with two saves and a 1.86 ERA. In 9 2/3 innings he has given up 17 hits and 11 runs, only one of which was earned, walked five and struck out nine. Pitt is 12-10.

Drew Bryan (P-O, VMI) owns a .273 average with four runs, three hits and a double. VMI is 13-9.

Austin Mock (State College, IUP) is hitting .143 with two runs scored, four hits, two doubles and an RBI. IUP is 5-6.

Clint Hicks (State College, Penn State Harrisburg) is 0-4 with an 8.24 ERA. In 19 2/3 innings he has given up 35 hits and 26 runs, 18 earned, while walking seven and striking out nine. Harrisburg is 3-15.

Matt Fry (State College, Washington & Jefferson) is hitting .263 with a run scored, five hits and an RBI. W&J is 6-7.

Parker Watson (P-O, Lock Haven) owns a 2-1 record and a 7.06 ERA. In 21 2/3 innings he has given up 27 hits and 19 runs, 17 earned, while walking seven and striking out 12. Lock Haven is 9-8.

Mike Marcinko (P-O, Shippensburg) is hitting .345. He has scored seven runs and driven in six. Among his 19 hits are two doubles. Shippensburg is 14-3.

Mark Curtis (P-O, Shippensburg) is 3-0 with a 2.86 ERA. He has worked 22 innings and allowed 21 hits, eight walks and struck out 22. Among his nine runs allowed are seven earned.

Saige Jenco (State College, Virginia Tech) leads the team in hitting with a .364 average. He has scored 22 runs and has 24 hits, three doubles, and has driven in seven runs.

Jason Costa (State College, Walters State) is hitting .333 with a pair of doubles, five runs scored and two driven in. Walters State is 26-7.

Jared Daily (State College, PSU-Altoona) has a .154 average. He has scored five runs and has four hits and four RBIs. Altoona is 5-10.

Mike Finlan (State College, Marietta College) is 0-2 with a 1.56 ERA and one save. In 17 1/3 innings he has given up 23 hits and nine runs, three earned, walked three and struck out two. Marietta is 11-4.

Ben Finlan (State College, Grove City) is 0-2 with a 1.64 ERA. In 11 innings he has allowed eight hits and four runs, two earned, while walking three and striking out eight. Grove City is 4-7.

Softball

Erica Pooler (Bellefonte, Lock Haven) is hitting .217 with three runs scored, 10 hits, five doubles, a homer and nine RBIs. Lock Haven is 6-13.

Jasa Mitchell (BEA, IUP) has a .435 average through 10 games. She has scored five runs and driven in six. Among her 10 hits are a pair of doubles, a triple and a homer. IUP had a 6-4 record at last report.

Lily Glunt (BEA, PSU-Altoona) was named the AMCC Player of the Week for the week ending March 16. In that time she hit .435 with six RBIs, seven runs scored, a double, a triple and one walk. For the season she is hitting .415 with 17 hits, two doubles, a triple and a team-high 13 RBIs. She is also tied for the team lead in runs scored with 12.

Brittany Smith (Bellefonte, PSU-Altoona) is hitting .455 with 11 runs scored, 15 hits, three doubles, a triple and three RBIs.

Kelly Chambers (BEA, PSU-Altoona) has a .375 average. She has scored 11 runs and driven in 10. Among her 15 hits are three doubles, two triples and two homers.

Cassondra Ross (BEA, PSU-Altoona) has a .222 batting average with one run scored and two hits. As a pitcher she is 1-0 with 5.36 ERA in 15 2/3 innings, with 18 hits, 12 runs, all earned, seven walks and seven strikeouts.

Raychel DeArmitt (Bellefonte, PSU-Altoona) is hitting .273 with six hits, a triple and five RBIs. In the pitcher’s circle she is 7-1 with a 3.67 ERA. In 40 innings she has allowed 46 hits and 23 runs, 21 earned, while walking 17 and striking out 46.

Clarissa Keller (Penns Valley, PSU-Altoona) is second on the team in hitting with a .500 average and tied for first in runs scored with 12. She has a pair of doubles and a homer among her 17 hits and has driven in 12 runs, second on the team.

Allison Simpson (BEA, PSU-Altoona) is hitting .333 with five runs scored, six hits and four RBIs.

Dani Hart (State College, Mt. Aloysius) is hitting .194 with seven runs scored, six hits, a homer and four RBIs. Mt.Aloysius is 5-5.

Chelsey Poorman (BEA, Lycoming) is hitting .125 with two runs scored, two hits and one RBI. Lycoming is 5-4.

Tess Deardorff (Penns Valley, Lebanon Valley) is 9 for 9 in stolen base attempts. She is hitting .389 with 13 runs scored and 14 hits, three doubles, a triple and two RBIs.

Kate Deardorff (Penns Valley, Lebanon Valley) is hitting .467 with six runs scored, 14 hits and an RBI. She has stolen six bases in eight attempts. Lebanon Valley is 11-0.

Morgan Coble (P-O, Shenandoah) is hitting .279 with 12 hits, five runs scored, a double, a triple and an RBI. Shenandoah is 2-13.

Taylor Parsons (BEA, St. Francis) has a .306 average. She has scored 11 runs and has a double, two triples and a homer among her 19 hits. She has driven in one run. St. Francis is 15-7.

Hannah Cooper (Bellefonte, Central Connecticut State) has a .283 average with two runs scored and 13 hits. She has three doubles, a homer and three RBIs. CCSU is 10-9.

Christina Tressler (Bellefonte, Clarion) is hitting .409 with nine hits including two doubles, and three RBIs. Clarion is 1-6.

Alli Baney (State College, Juniata) is hitting .186 with nine runs scored, nine hits, three doubles, a triple and one RBI. Juniata is 3-13.

Track & field

John Crowe (State College, Susquehanna) finished third in the 5,000 meters at the Juniata Open with a time of 16:10.30.

Paul Crowe (State College, Susquehanna) took second in the 5,000 at Juniata in 16:10.03.

Matt Brooker (Penns Valley, Cedarville) placed 12th in the 5,000 in the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships with a time of 14:39.41.

Lacrosse

Andy Jameson (State College, Eastern) has six goals and five assists. Eastern is 5-4.

Kayla Weaver (State College, Shippensburg) has started all six games on defense. Shippensburg is 4-2.
